The Perfect Pig Company is run at our farm Le Logis in Cours, Deux Sevres by husband and wife team, David and Lorraine Jones.
After leaving the Corporate life back in England in 2009, we settled in South West France in the Deux Servres and began to rear Pedigree pigs - mainly Berkshires which is now our top selling pork.
A heritage breed famous for their taste – sweet, tender, rich and juicy - not like modern pork you find in the supermarket.
Mrs Beeton described it as "the most esteemed of our English domestic breeds". Our Berkshires have plenty of lean meat, succulent joints and are full of quality thanks to being raised free-range outdoors and in family groups. We feed our pigs on cereals and petit lait from a local goat cheese maker.
The pork is highly prized by food lovers in Australia, USA and Japan where it is known as Kurobuta pork or ‘The Black Pork’, which must be one hundred per cent pure bred Berkshire.
In August's Observer Food Monthly Berkshire pork received rave reviews:
"rare breed pork tastes better, with a fuller flavour than commercially produced pork and the qualities of the Berkshire are renowned. "
Our other Pedigree breeds are Gloucestershire Old Spots; Oxford Sandy & Black; Middle White; Saddleback and Tamworth.
